A soggy garden tour

Yesterday Nani came over to join us for the anual La Honda garden tour. Unfortunately, it was raining, but Eli really didn't seem to mind, so we powered through it. In fact, he was pretty entertained by the sound of the rain hitting the umbrella and tried to take it away from me, and in the process, tried to poke eveyone's eyes out.

We were able to see some beautiful gardens, and get some wonderful ideas for our garden. It is Franz's dream to one day be on the garden tour one day. He wanted to be on it next year, but I think that's a little too soon.

The first house we went to had a professionally installed tree house; it was beautiful. That thing was really hard to get into because the stairs were made for little legs and feet, and I have neither. But it did really make me want one for Eli when he gets older. Although, our trees are a little taller than the trees that that first house had, by say, oh, a hundred feet, so I don't know if a tree house is possible in our yard.

Eli really liked any garden that had any type of water feature, and he felt that it was his right to jump in, and anyone who tried to come between him and the water felt the wrath of Eli's fists of fury. But true to Gemini form, he also really liked the house with the fire pit. We are planning to build one in our yard this summer, and we must take into account the fact that we have a child that has a gutteral instinct to throw himself into any fire within sight. I'm thinking that we should just bulid a moat around the pit with the hopes that this will distract him. However, given the choice between fire and water, I honestly don't know which he'd choose. Maybe we'll just put him in his cage when we have a fire outside.
