Our first trip to the Zoo!

I am still glowing from our trip to the Oakland Zoo yesterday. ELI WAS SO GOOD! He didn't really get the animals (though he LOVED the allegator exhibit. He thought it was just a big fish tank), but he had a great time looking at all the kids and sights and sounds of the zoo. He didn't fuss once. NOT ONCE. It makes me think that moving to the zoo might be something to consider.

We went to the zoo with our friends Scott, Misty, and Taylor. Taylor is four and loud and energetic and Eli loved her. While she sang songs and ran around and yelled, Eli watched her as if he knew that he one day would be running and screaming too. I thought that she might scare him (she's REALLY loud) but he thought she was great. And she was so cute with him. She kept trying to give him her popcicle, but it was lime and he wanted none of it.

On our trip, Eli pet his first goat horn and then we were told by the zoo lady that he shouldn't do that(you know, those Oakland zoo people really have their, um, stuff together. They don't let the public feed the goats so they don't attack people, which is nice. Instead of food, they give the kids brushes to brush the goats. I was secretly nervous about letting Eli in with the goats because I've been chased by a pack of goats in the SF petting zoo and I still have nightmares about it), heard lions growling at each other (they were so loud, they sounded fabricated. Franz and I totally thought Eli would freak out, but he seemed to enjoy listening to someone else being pissed off for a change), and Eli rode on his first America go round (Taylor is so cute). He tried to lick the pole the entire time. It was great.

After the zoo, we decided to go visit my parents, and thought for sure that Eli would lose it there, well, because he ALWAYS looses it there. But he had a cat nap in the car, and woke up in super good spirits and was an angel the whole time. Nani and Grandpa were so pleased. Eli let them feed him miso soup and avacado (not together) and they played and he didn't throw a fit and it was so nice to watch.

There's a theme in Eli's pictures. In 40% of the pictures taken of Eli while at the zoo, he's licking stuff: giant ladybugs and brass poles. That silly kid.

That's what babies do at his age, everything that does not belong in the mouth, well you get the idea. Glad he enjoyed his trip too bad he couldn't pet the goat.

Watch out for that poop. Zoo folks may bring you a scooper.
